Finish Strong Friday: The Power of Rest for Leaders and Small Business Owners— Hey friends, it’s Angel. Today’s Finish Strong Friday message is simple but powerful: Remember to rest.

Power of Rest

As small business owners and leaders, we often believe we have to be on 24/7. We convince ourselves that everything depends on us—our inbox, our clients, our teams, our to-do lists. But here’s the truth: Rest is not a luxury. It’s a necessity.

The Wake-Up Call: When the WiFi Didn’t Work

A few weeks ago, I took a cruise with some friends—a much-needed break. I had every intention of staying connected with my team during the trip, checking in, and making sure everything was running smoothly. But guess what?

The WiFi didn’t work.

For a split second, panic set in. What if they need me? What if something goes wrong? What if…

Then, I made a decision: Trust the vision. Trust my team.

I put my business phone in the safe. I knew that if something truly urgent happened, they would find a way to get ahold of me. And you know what happened?

Everything went better than expected.

Rest Isn’t Just for You—It’s for Your Team Too

When I returned, I spoke with my team—Jodi, Jenna, and Melissa. Not only had things gone well, but something incredible happened:

💡 They collaborated more.

💡 They leaned into their strengths.

💡 They enjoyed the process.

By stepping back, I created space for my team to step forward. They weren’t just resting in the vision of the company; they were resting in their own talents and abilities—and it was a beautiful thing to witness.

Why Rest Matters for Small Business Owners and Leaders

As business owners, we often push rest to the bottom of the priority list. But here’s why it should be at the top:

1️⃣ Rest Builds Trust

When you step away, you give your team the opportunity to rise. You show them you trust their abilities, which builds confidence and strengthens collaboration.

2️⃣ Rest Prevents Burnout

Running a business is a marathon, not a sprint. Without intentional rest, exhaustion sets in; creativity suffers, and decision-making declines.

3️⃣ Rest Gives You a Fresh Perspective

Have you ever noticed that some of your best ideas come when you step away? A rested mind is more creative, more strategic, and better equipped to tackle challenges.

4️⃣ Rest Models Healthy Leadership

Your team is watching. If you never rest, they will feel pressured to do the same. A leader who prioritizes balance creates a team that does, too.

Your Finish Strong Friday Challenge: Plan Your Rest

This week, I challenge you to schedule intentional rest—whether it’s an afternoon off, a weekend away, or a full vacation.

Turn off notifications.

Trust your team.

Recharge your energy.

Sometimes, we don’t realize how much we need rest until we actually take it.

So, as you Finish Strong this Friday, ask yourself: “When was the last time I truly stepped away?”

Your business—and your team—will be better for it.
