Stop the Slop | AI Didn’t Build Your Reputation. Don’t Let It Replace Your Voice. A client asked me recently if they should use AI to write all of their LinkedIn posts. It’s a fair question. AI is getting better every day. It can organize ideas, summarize information, improve grammar, and even sound surprisingly convincing. For busy professionals, it’s tempting to let it do the heavy lifting.
But here’s where I believe we need to be careful…Stop the Slop
LinkedIn recently encouraged creators to avoid what has become known as “AI slop.” Merriam-Webster even selected slop as its 2025 Word of the Year, describing the growing flood of AI-generated content that feels generic, repetitive, and disconnected from any real human experience. When I read that, I wasn’t surprised. I see it every day.
Post after post filled with polished words that say very little. They sound impressive at first glance, but after reading a few sentences, you realize you still don’t know anything about the person who wrote them. Stop the slop.
The problem isn’t AI. The problem is when we allow AI to replace our voice instead of supporting it.
I’ve said this to clients for years. People don’t hire you because you know how to put words on a page. They hire you because of your judgment, your perspective, your experience, and your ability to help them solve problems they cannot solve on their own. None of that comes from a prompt. It comes from years of serving clients, making mistakes, learning lessons, and earning trust one relationship at a time. That’s what people want to hear.
When someone follows you on LinkedIn, they’re not looking for another perfectly written article that could have been generated by anyone. They’re looking for your perspective. They want to know what you’re seeing in your industry, what you’ve learned from your clients, and what experience has taught you. That’s where credibility is built.
Does that mean you should never use AI?
Not at all. We use AI every day at Marketing Angel. It’s an incredible tool for brainstorming ideas, organizing thoughts, checking grammar, and helping us work more efficiently. But there’s a difference between using AI as an editor and allowing it to become your author.
→ One strengthens your voice.
→ The other slowly replaces it.
The professionals who will stand out over the next several years won’t necessarily be the ones producing the most content. They’ll be the ones producing the most authentic content. Their personality will come through. Their values will be evident. Their clients will recognize them in every sentence. That’s something no algorithm can manufacture.
As AI becomes more common, authenticity becomes more valuable. So before you hit “publish” on your next LinkedIn post, ask yourself one simple question: Does this sound like me?
If the answer is yes, publish it. If the answer is no, keep writing until your voice comes through. Your experience is too valuable to hide behind someone else’s words, even if those words came from artificial intelligence.
The goal has never been to sound perfect. The goal is to sound like yourself. And in today’s marketplace, that may be one of your greatest competitive advantages.
