AI: 3 Tips, Relationships + Impact | You Are Not Competing With AI. You Are Competing With Fear. Over the past several weeks, I have had more conversations about AI than I can count. Some have been with attorneys. Others with physicians, consultants, accountants, marketers, and business owners who have spent decades building their expertise. Although their industries are different, the question underneath every conversation has been remarkably similar.
“Am I going to be replaced?”
It’s an honest question, and I understand why people are asking it. AI is moving faster than any technology most of us have experienced in our careers. Every week there is another announcement, another tool, another prediction about how business will never be the same. If you listen long enough, it’s easy to begin believing that everything you’ve spent years building is suddenly less valuable. I don’t believe that’s true.
I believe AI is one of the most significant tools we’ve ever been given. It has the potential to make businesses more efficient, help us analyze information faster, and eliminate work that doesn’t require human creativity. We use AI every day at Marketing Angel because it helps us serve our clients better.
But there are things AI simply cannot do.
It cannot sit across the table from a client who’s facing a difficult decision and earn their trust. It cannot recognize what someone isn’t saying during a conversation. It cannot draw from years of experience to see patterns that aren’t obvious on the surface. And it certainly cannot replace the reputation you’ve spent years, maybe even decades, building one relationship at a time. That is where your value lives.
I think one of the greatest risks facing business owners today isn’t AI itself. It’s fear.
Fear convinces us that we have to become someone we’re not. It tells us to abandon the very strengths that made us successful in the first place. It causes us to chase every new trend instead of becoming even better at serving the people who already trust us. I’ve seen this happen before.
When social media emerged, people wondered if websites still mattered. When search engines evolved, people thought traditional networking was over. When the pandemic changed the way we worked, many questioned whether business relationships would ever look the same again.
Every season of change creates uncertainty. Every season also creates opportunity.
The professionals who thrive are rarely the ones who panic first. They’re the ones who learn, adapt, and continue building on the foundation they’ve already established. That’s why I’ve started encouraging clients to do something simple:
Take out a piece of paper and write down three ways you created value this past year that AI could never have done. Maybe it was helping a client navigate a difficult situation. Maybe it was solving a problem that required wisdom instead of information. Maybe it was building trust with someone who needed to know they weren’t facing a challenge alone. Keep that list. Not because you’re trying to prove AI wrong, but because you’re reminding yourself what makes you valuable.
Technology will continue to evolve. It always has.
The professionals who continue to invest in their judgment, relationships, integrity, and expertise will evolve with it. You did not spend years becoming excellent at what you do just to be replaced by a prompt. You spent those years becoming someone people trust. And trust is still one of the most valuable assets any business can have.
AI: 3 Tips, Relationships + Impact
If you’re trying to understand how AI fits into your business without allowing fear to drive your decisions, I’d be happy to have that conversation. The future belongs to professionals who know how to combine technology with humanity. That’s a future worth building!
